38 Scarab
Looking at doing some horse trading on an '81 Flat Deck 38 Scarab O/S. Looks like a KV, but doen't have the KV in/under or around the hull number.
It has (2) dyno'd 540's which seem to produce 550 hp through velvet drives and TRS's :D Question: Any guess's as to what kinda top speed? Not the most important thing, but kinda currious. Uncle Ernie (soon to be a Scarab guy....don't tell the Cigarette section  :drink: ). |
Re: 38 Scarab
No clue as to the speed, but welcome to the dark side.

Thanks kamma ! That was going to be the next question. I'm buying the big ol' beast with re-built TRS and Veltvet Drives, but no props. 26's should be a good place to start :drink: . What do you cruize @ speed wise with those wheels? |
Re: 38 Scarab
3200 to 3400 rpm anywhere from 45 to 51 mph, depending on the water. Any more questions let me know? I live in Ida, Mi.

Re: 38 Scarab
Here's a question.
If the Wellcraft Serial number ends in the word, KAAMA, does it mean anything different from it being a KV or 377 Flat Deck? Just curious. |
Re: 38 Scarab
yea . . . me to :drink:
|
Re: 38 Scarab
Ernie + Dave, your hull vin's end with the word KAAMA? I will have to take a look at my hull # to see it it says the same thing.
|
Re: 38 Scarab
phughes69.....did ya ever check your seriel numbers on your boat :D
and let's watch the "Ernie + Dave" thing.....people will talk around here :drink:  :drink: |
Re: 38 Scarab
hey . . you could do alot worse cupcake :p :drink:
|
Re: 38 Scarab
I checked my hull # over the weekend and this is what I found
WELA4649V80F-377 My boat has race hatches and 475 HP turbo/speedmaster motors, but no Kaama on the hull sides of anywhere in the engine compartment. So is mine a Kaama or not? Were Kaama's available in 1980? Maybe MikeJ knows? |
Re: 38 Scarab
sounds like a wellcraft and a 1980 boat, the last 2 dig. of the hull number are the year of the boat!thats with all boats!the first dig. are usually the manufacture code or ID!
|
Re: 38 Scarab
Ernie, what is your hull id #?
|

Letters are of same size/font and appear to be original. Race Hatches, flat deck, fairing instead of glass shield and TRS's. Hull does have a notched transom. Some seem to, others do not. Not sure what the diff. is, but the 475 Turbo motors are hot no mater. :D |
Re: 38 Scarab

hey I found a nice project boat, and by project i am being nice to it. the poor owners had no clue on how to care for her. Anyhow, the TRS drives are GONE...misplaced. Where can I get a set of good ones cheap? email me back please [email protected]
|
Re: 38 Scarab
Dave:
TRS drives and cheap is an oxymoron. The parts are becoming increasingly scarce and the prices on rebuilt units are not coming down either. When you inquired about our 39' Stinger project for sale, I told you all about the TRS drives. Given the horsepower and torque of the stock 454/400 Cyclones, the TRS drives should be bulletproof. There is no sense in replacing them with Bravos at this stage of the game, because there are other variables, i.e. engine placement, etc., and especially Bravo III's as you mentioned, which are not appropriate for this type of boat. The only logical replacement drive for the TRS is a Konrad, and they will run almost $20k for the pair last time I checked. With that in mind, I don't think they are in your price range considering you were supposedly shuffling money around, sending me a deposit and picking the boat up this past weekend. I spent an awful lot of time discussing this boat with you and for a change I'm just left hanging. Harry |
Re: 38 Scarab
OOO,NAUGHTY NAUGHTY!NOT GOOD BUISNESS!
|
Re: 38 Scarab
I just didn't want to see any other OSO brothers get jerked around as I did. I must have spent 10 hours on the phone and emailing back and forth with "BAM" (Dave) reassuring me what a "serious" buyer he was and how badly he wanted the boat. Not trying to libel him here, just stating the facts so others will take proper care.
