I have the Garmin 440s, with no sounder. It's been an OK unit, wish I could have fit the 500 series in my boat. It works fairly well, the touch screens offer an easier GUI. I have the Bluechart G2 vision card, which I think makes the unit far better. Easier to see, has depth measurements, not just countours.

If you can fit the unit, which is slightly larger, go for the 5" screen over the 4". If not, they all show mph, offer anchor drag, trip stats, etc.

My $10 Navionics iPhone app shows mph, and believe it or not, has a much clearer readout. If you want to spend more $$$, the newer 640 touch screen is great.

I bought mine here, great service and updates.
