pull the drive off and check the shift linkage it...

pull the drive off and check the shift linkage it looks alot like part of the lock that holds the cable. If it is then you probably have the shift adjustment way off also and wearing the shift cam...

I agree just touch up any spots rather than stripping completely. Ive had guys strip them and have them powder coated and its not as good as factory. Unless of corse they are completely shot.

They are just about not worth rebuiling anymore. If you need a new gimbal ring, swivel shaft, bellows, bearings, bushings, seals, paint, trim senders, and labor its cheaper to buy a new complete one....

According to serial number its manufacture date...

According to serial number its manufacture date is 07/29/96. By putting serial number into parts catalog it could be either flat or roller, both have same valve covers.
Drive is gen 2 alpha 1.62...
