maybe its called the "neutral switch" not "neutral safety switch"

it is not on the shifters, it is mounted on the linkage and lets the ECM know if the boat is in gear or not, essentially the boat...

you'll need a scanner to verify but sounds like the neutral safety switch, it will not allow the boat to rev over 3000 or 3500 (I forget) if in neutral, it is adjustable and mounted on the linkage......
