Have you tried raising your RPM's at all from idle ? My alternators don't kick in till about 1200 rpm then you are fine and will charge at idle from that point on.

Looks great, when you changed gauges, did you replace the sender in the tank as
well ? It appears there is a different resistance between the VDO and the Faria.
