Yes it's very important, that seal keeps water out of the drive,,the inner oil seal keeps the oil in,,if it leaks water gets inside the drive, if cracked change both lower seals it's an easy...

Most likely broke a tooth off of one of the XR gears,, them maybe shredded another gear, lower will be full of metal fragments also.

I have been using the ,,H,, stamped Bravo driven gears for many years with the Low Bump Shift lever, it works just fine, no problems ever
