we have seen 40+hp going from some of the most popular OTS cams to custom stuff that is spec'd and ground from a nascar cam guy. Not to mention a much better steel cam core than the usual sadi cores.

Not directed at anyone in particular, people just get caught up in flow numbers really easily. I cant comment on your buddy and your boats as Im a total hack when it comes to marine, we run 600-800...

I bought an 87 21ft wellcraft for 5k, replaced the tired 305 with a decent 355 inch and it went 64 on gps this weekend. Total of 7100. I do al my own stuff also, so no other costs incurred

basing your purchase on flow numbers is useless. Port length, cross section and many other variables is where you need to spend your time looking. I have yet to see a flow bench or a dyno with a prop...

update, yanked the drive, fired it up, still vibrates. Maybe got an external flywheel and it slippd past me. Time to yank it out again. :mad:

Im not sure what the throttle bracket looks like on that year, but on my 87' whihc used to be a 200hp 305 with a 2 barrel I had to weld up a new throttle cable bracket as the 2 barrel is not as wide...

It was just a short block reman. Bone stock reman. Wether they threw the rotating on a hines type balancer I couldnt tell ya. I will call him tommorrow and ask.

it was fine with the old 305 in it last year at the last outing, if it was the ujoints that would be great. I was gonna pull the drive tommorrow and just fire it up for 5 seconds and I would know...

I thought the only externals were the 400? Im no chevy guy by any means mind you. Flywheel is on correct for sure, may have the wrong one

ya it was a shortblock 355 inch reman, edelbrock headed, hyd cammed, performer intake. No big deal motor. Shortblock is supposed to be of 80-83 vintage. Has 2 piece rear main. Used a brand new...
