It's a 6mm hex. Also, when you change the filter on top you should pull the fuel that is left out of the canister.

I built a couple of stands out of 1" square tubing and I use the trailer jack to raise or lower the drive height to fit my stands. They come off very easy, just don't forget to open the shift cable...

Ford does go out the to bid on thier filters, but it is bid to a certain spec put together by the engineers. I run Donaldson myself and have been problem free with my 03 6.0L for over 200,000 miles.
