stay away from carolina machine engines (cmengines). In 2009 I had to return (2) 496's because they do not know how to install the lifters properly per the instructions that come in the box......

Transom Rot?

Is there a quick and easy way to check for transom rot without hiring a surveyor? I think I read somewhere to use a plastic mallet and tap on the surface. Does that really work?

Yeah, and that's why I'm asking. I don't want to go too big and not get enough heat. I was just hoping someone would have a similar setup and tell me what they were using with their oil temps.
