the 540i has a 282 hp 4.4L V8, the 2004-2006 X5's...

the 540i has a 282 hp 4.4L V8, the 2004-2006 X5's have a 315 hp 4.4L V8...the new x5 is a 4.8 L v8 which has 350hp...so although it is heavier than the 540, in all of the recent applications you get...

i tow my 2007 Hustler 25 Talon which is about 4500lbs with an x5 4.4...thing is the best tow vehicle i have used, you cant even tell the boat is behind you..
