I hear what your saying however grab your cooler immeadiately after running WOT for a few minutes. The heat still needs to disapate. It's similar to that of your engine as well. No paint at all...

Assuming your cleaning the inside out I would or even have flushed with gas repeatedly and then boiling hot water. This is what I've done and it works pretty well. It's amazing what comes out...
