Default Shelby GT500KR

I've seen post's on the site about everybody showing their rides so I just had to post this little tidbit.
Two days ago one of my good friends picked up a 1968 Shelby GT 500 KR (king of the road) in original unrestored condition. The car has 53K origanal miles. Before he purchased the car he took a mustang "authenticator" (?) to check all the #'s. Everything looked great. The car has the 450 h.p. Lemans 428 Cobra jet. Now here's the catch...........he picked it up for $35K!!! He brought it home on a roll back and by the time he got home he had already recieved 4 calls about selling the car. Yesterday he had a collector come from Indiana to check out the car. He offered him $80K He has had many people come and look at the car including several historians, collectors, etc. etc. At this point he wants to keep the car for one week and sell to the highest bidder. Not bad for two day's of work. This is the classic "son went to Vietnam" find.
I went and checked out the car, and it has 53K miles of wear and tear. Looks like it was a daily driver back in the day. The car purr's like a kitten.
Sorry to ramble, I just thought it was a cool story.

I got a friend in Mississippi that does that for a living, he tows a car hualer around the country and digs around in barns. He finds about 3 a year. He specialices in early F1 cars and make a mint on them. He bought one for 500 bucks from a guy in nebraska and sold it at Laguna Seca for 200k. not a bad profit. He said the biggest problem is when teams modified cars to keep running them for a few seasons cuase they dont have much value that way and in the olden days racing budgets didn't allow for 10 cars a year.

Your friend needs to wait and get that car in Arizona next year for the Barret-Jackson Auction. The guys with big bucks will pay a premium for an Original KR.

A Shelby GT 500 went for over 500K at the barrett jackson auction this year in Ft. Lauderdale. It was a little differnt than the one your friend owns though.
