Hi,
I have a 95 340 PQ with gaffrig depth and tranducer mounted in the bildge on the starboard side directly below the front of the motor.
This is a non-step hull.
The gauge works on and off at 35-40....all the time below 35 and most of the time while going real fast. I have had the gauge checked by gaffrig and the ducer is sealed good (i.e. not getting air/water between it and the hull.
Is this normal (I've only waited 10 yrs to ask) or can something be done to improve readings? I am betting I am getting air under the hull which contribtes to on again off again readings.
Thanks!

I had the same issue with my 93 PQ. It would work fine at 20-30mph but at 0-20 I never would get a correct reading. Never solved the problem and sold the boat. I always assumed it was a transducer issue. Possibly not set correctly and pointing off at an angle.

I read somewhere that an idea to try would be to move the transducer around the hull as best you can for testing. A sandbag would work to hold it down for a short test period. I believe the article said to wet the surface first to help with the transmission of the signal through the hull. I think the closer to the center of the boat the better.
On my stepped hull Donzi, the factory said it would never work correctly as the step introduces bubbles in the water. However, my 300 Revenge's depth gauge works all of the time (when I have looked at it) I have not really checked it at speed yet.
