Default Particles in Bravo 1 Drive Oil ?

What is permitible for particles in Bravo 1 drive fluid?

Must be brass because not much is magnetic or holding to the magnetic plug.

These are pre XR drives. I'm just changing the fluid and wanting to make sure everything is OK. Don't want to wait till it self destructs.

Sounds like clutch cone[race] material in the forward or reverse gear.

It was just a very fine amount. I was assuming from the cluthes also but wasn't sure how much was normal.

Dusty, the brass comes from the rings on the gears that wear on the shift fork. Not too harmful, but change your oil more often. If you see fuzz on the magnet, then wear is evident. If you feel chunks on the lower magnet the lower gears are done! If you feel chunks on the upper magnet you already are too late!! Just my experience..

Thanks,
They are 500 efi's in a 38' Donzi. It was very minimal (had to look twice to even notice) but I'm pretty anal and always want to make sure everything is ok.

Any time you get metal particles on the magnet, it means they are traveling through the preloaded tappered bearings and causing some damage. How much is hard to tell without disassembling them and checking. When preload goes away due to wear, then lash gets loose and things start to break.
Like I say, it is hard to tell without looking, but I have know people to washout the upper with mineral spirits and run it. How much power are you running and what kind of prop? Seems merc is making things weaker now a days.. Not the first set of lower gears that give up after 20hrs.

Lets see some pics..
