Ok so i was cruisin along on sunday in the Nordic. I was going about 40mph. I decided to hit the throttle and speed up, when I did there was a sudden loud beep. The boat slowly came to a stop and since the throttle was still engaged the motor just reved up. So I put the boat in nuetral and opened the engine compartment. Smoke was coming from the belt/pulley area and it smelled like a burnt serpentine belt. I check to see if my boat still goes into gear, which it does. It will go into gear but as soon as I give it some gas it does the same thing again. boat will go no where, rpms will jump up,motor will rev up and the smoke will start up again. I dont think its a spun prop. What do you guys think? Bearings?coupler? Impellar pump? One last thing, its a 496 with a bravo, boat has 55hrs on it and was just serviced. Oil change and drive was checked for alignment. thanks

My guess-Coupler
Similar thing happened to me on my Nova years back outside the Golden Gate.
Motor mount collapsed, caused engine/drive misalignment and spun coupler-towed in at 125.00 per hr by Sea Tow @ 5mph for 6 hours...ouch...Wife still reminds me on the expense not including yanking motor.
Good luck hope it works out 4u
