The Sterling 1050's were good motors. The blocks were 572 Merlins. The new owner had them tweaked after we sold it. The only problem when you get that much hp, the surge like hell b/c of the cam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To pull out of the surge you had to idle up around 2200, it's great on tranny's! Good luck, they are temper-mental, at start up and docking, but they are sweet at 6,200rpm. They said that they needed a total at around 150 hrs. That's about all I know.. Got rid of the boat with 28 hours on it. Remember the higher you go with Sterling power, the harder they are to handle! You get used to it though

Here is my opinion, since JC is scared

Sterling builds one hell of a race engine, but they don't seem to work real well in a pleasure boat from what I have seen. I know about a dozen boats around my area that have gotten Sterling power and I believe that the Cheasapeake Bay record for one lasting is around 65 hours. That guy babied the chit out of it for the last 20 or so hours. Many weren't that lucky!!! (5 hours) No warrenty....but they will sell you another one.

Nobody (especially the magazines) ever has anything bad to say about them, but the stories seem to leak out at the bar.

sounds like I might be better off with the 1075 mercs or just stay with the Nortech 1150's, have'nt found a better, more reliable motor yet. Ron just makes a hell of a motor, might just wait on their new 1400. just though sterling was suppossed to be great motor.
