Default Merc Shift Cutout Switch

I just isolated intermittant ignition problems I've been having to the shift cutout switch on my '88 Baja Sunsport 196. The Merc part number is 39670A28. My local marina looked it up and it's not available anymore. The service bulletin states that the replacement kit only works with a new trim pump. Does anyone know how/why the trim pump would be affected by this switch? Is there a suitable non-Mercruiser replacement switch out there?

The new shift bracket doesn not have a provision for a reverse lock valve. The RLV was not used on anything I can think of past 1982 or so. We keep the kit PN 86436A1 on the shelf, you can order here if you want:

That would be good news if I can use that kit. I just have to verify I have the right trim pump.
