Bottom of boat is flaking? Can I use it one more time before repair?
#1
I have a 2001 28 Daytona and I recently noticed this 5 to 6 inch diameter spot on the bottom of boat about 10-12 ft up from transom and 1 ft in. It's on the surface and it's flaking. I'm positive that I didn't hit anything and I've been told it might be delaminating. It can be fixed for about $200-$300, but not till next week. My question is: Will I be OK to run the boat one more time until repaired? Kenny at Eliminator said it shouldn't be a problem and the guy that will repair it also said the same thing. If this is in fact delamination, I was told it needs to flake out anyway to get the bad part off.
I don't know much about fiberglass and I'm concerned about taking it out? Will I be ok or not? Thanks

i wouldn't run a boat that is delaminating... you will be forcing water (at a pretty good pressure if you run your boat hard) into the edge that is coming apart... the "good" fiberglass beyond the flake might not be able to withstand this... after that, your coring is next on the damage list...

I think I'll just leave her parked till it's fixed. Dam it, I had a boat load lined up for Sat. too...
