My 292 is running the standard Merc SS props which are 28 pitch. The boat is an '02, before Formula put Lab Finished 28's on standard. Here's the problem. The max RPM's I'm getting are 5k. I think the rev limiter is around 5150 - 5250. A few weeks ago I realized that when running wide open @ 5,000 k @ 72 - 73 MPH and backing down to 4750RPM's for a few minutes the GPS still showed 72? Therefore lies the mystery. I can't get to 5150 RPM's yet the boat runs the same at 4750 as it does at 5000 RPM.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

That is the same speed a local guy here gets with his 292 with 6.2's

Propellers with bad efficiency.

As the boat changes attitude the props don't hook up and the slip% goes through the roof.

Keep in mind, the 292's come with 1.65 gears.
