Default Drag on trailer disk brakes - ok?

I have a Myco triple axle disk brake trailer. I noticed that some of the rotors seem hotter than normal. I jacked up trailer and checked one of them by spinning the wheel. It would turn but I could feel drag from the brakes. Is this typical or should the rotor freely spin with no drag. If should be free I assume the caliper piston has some corrision and not returning completely. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick

Is it a new trailer and/or new brakes? It's somewhat typical for them to drag just a little if they are new but I wouldn't expect them to drag otherwise. If they are dragging enough to build up substantial heat then there is a problem. I would look at the caliper first as you indicated.

Disc brakes have some drag to them. There is no return spring to pull the pads away from the rotors as in drum brakes. Only release is from lack of line pressure, plus abit of rotor run out. Keeps the rotors dry to for better stopping. Some heat is normal. I usually feel the wheels at each stop for a variation between the wheels. Should be warm normally unless you just did some heavy braking.

Try greasing the slides on your calipers. A little drag is normal for new brakes but one trip should cure that. I would bet your slides are rusted, it's pretty common.

Guys,
Thanks for the replies, the brakes are not new. It is an 04. I will check the slides to make sure they are not hanging up on them.
