hi,
in the classifieds there are 2 dealers selling these engines and they have them advertised under 2 categories;
1 - 496 HO with full factory warranty $10950
2 - 496 HO with 60 day warranty $9950
does anyone have any experience with these engines, and can someone tell me why their is a $1000 difference between the 2, other than the warranty period? is the cheaper one used or rebuilt?
thanks
jack

You might want to change your title to "Prices for a set of new 496HO's???"
Someone might also have a better idea on where to find a set at a lower price with the 1 year warranty....
It says Victory Marine Warranty.... NOT factory warranty....
I thought I saw these engines somewhere for under 10k with full warranty... I'll post if I can find it...
Anyone else know???

I saw those when I was shopping for a 496. That price sounds great. I paid more for mine but I felt more comfortable dealing with my local Merc dealer. The one must be used if it does not have the full warranty.

Nope, NEW 496 comes with 1 year factory warranty. Period.
Unless it is a Horizon , then it's 3 years. But that's not available in a 496 Bravo engine.

A couple years ago I purchased a pair of 502 mags longblocks from ther above mentioned dealer in TX. I had them instslled by a local shop and used them 25hours in the boat before selling it. 10 hours after the new owner used theboat he spun rod bearings in one engine. On engine did have a slight diff in oil pressure but i was assured it was a diff in gagues and senders. WHATEVER YOU DO BUY IT LOCALLY!!!!!!!!! I have heard so much crap going on with supposed rebuilt or new engines bought over the internet and out of state its unreal! When I puke a new engine I want to see the seller face to face not get the run around over the phone a thousand miles waway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lived and I learned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure, you will have to ask the seller. It's certainly a reasonable question.
Yes, the Horizon version of the 496 is straight inboard.
I don't think purchasing a NEW complete, ready to install engine with a factory warranty is a significant risk.

I have Dealt with Gerid at Victory Marine a few times and have good results everytime. Usaully when I've called for pricing the motor with 12 month Merc. warranty is brand new, the motor for less money is also brand new but is a non-current model so they can't offer it with a Merc. warranty...
