Default Price Shopping For Paint Job

Just looking to get a rough estimate of what it will cost to repaint the bottom and back of my boat. I want to have it sanded down and any small cracks repaired (mostly all gelcoat cracks) as well as a respray.

The boat is a 21' Scarab 1. The colors will be two stripes solid along with a blended 4 color stripe in the middle. Basically the same paint side as on the Miami Vice 38 KV's.

I know that there are a lot of variables; I'm just looking for a rough, ball park guess. Thanks!

sounds relativly straight forward. for the paint you described and average gel work should be in the 2500-3000 range. this from the hard chine up to the rub rail and the transom. hope this helps you out.

i actually do many jobs like this for a local marina. it is usually quicker and has better results than trying to buff back an old dead gelcoat. lasts longer and dosent die back like gel will.

I assume you are talking about hullsides and transom. $3000. is conservative. although the easiest to prep and spray, the transom can be more involved time-wise if done properly. Is it rigged or disassembled? Think about taping for paint and sanding all edges(and silicon and caulk removal) I have charged $800 to paint a transom and hoped they didn't want it done! I assume you will base /clear the boat to bury the stripes under the clear with minimal edges to chip and hold wax. Good paint is important and it will be about $500 at least. ( Reds are the most expensive) The key will be proper grinding and repairing of the stress cracks in the gel. They have a nasty habit of coming back through after you have that killer paint job applied. The lowest price is not necessiarly the best deal. Check out work done by them that is a year old: the truth will be visible!
