Oil Change Seawater Pump/Fuel Pump
#1
Greetings...
I have 525 SC motors with combo seawater/fuel pumps.
Is there any way to remove the oil oil other than removing the pumps from the engines? I tried a small diameter tube to suck it out but could not get the tube down far enough to get much oil.

Your trying to do an oil change???
Get your self a hand pump that screws onto the thread on the dipstick tube. That will suck the oil out, you don't have to stick a tube down the dipstick tube. Hope this helps.

Best way is just pull the pumps...not that big of a deal, and while there off you can check the fuel pumps for leakage and clean out any crap thats in there. Dont forget to get a couple of gaskets prior to starting.

You can also take the housing off the back of that pump without taking the fuel pump apart or taking the pump off the motor. Just unbolt the five 1/2 bolts, take the plastic housing off, replace the impeller and put it back together. Grease the impeller, and make sure the o-ring is seated in the plastic housing properly. Make sure you mark your hoses too so you don't put them on backwards. It's not that hard of a job as long as the access is good to the pump itself.

Greetings...
Thank you for your replies. Seems I did not do a great job phrasing the question...but yep, I was asking about changing the oil in the seawater/fuel pump assembly. Looks like I'll be pulling the pumps.
Interesting thing is that Merc's shop manual shows and labels a drain plug in some of the drawings...but not in others! Presumably some have a drain plug, others don't.
