oil coolers

i noticed a post on oil coolers, basically i am running what used to be 2 330hp mercs, but now w/ large oval port heads, comp cams, edelbrock intakes, roller rockers, hypereutectic pistons and was wondering if the stock oil cooler/ oil pan is sufficient- i turn the motors at 5000 rpm, and would guess 420-440 hp- do i need to change anything????

A bigger, better cooler will never hurt anything except your wallet; but if you are asking if you really need one:?!? The only way to really know is to install oil temp gages. That costs lots less than unnecessary coolers and then YOU can decide what YOU really should do. Merc. had a number of stock coolers and the ones that they used with the stock 330's I would consider to be marginal at best for your current set-up. --- Jer
