I just purchased a 2000 29' Fountain with a 500 EFI. This is my first boat and I am looking for some good advice about the prop. The current prop is a Hydromotive 24 pitch as far as I can tell it is the stock one that came on the boat. The prop is a little ruff around the edges. I am interested in a new prop and/or getting this prop reworked. Is this the right prop for the boat? I love top end speed but I still need to get the boat on plane with about six people. What would be recomended and who should I buy from?

Thank you badtoon.
famous12345,
The Quad 4 is an excellent choice for your boat and will most likely give you the best top end speed.. What is the wide open throttle rpm and speed with the prop you have now? The pitch seems to be a little low for the boat and power combination. Since this is your first boat I would suggest cleaning up the prop you have now and spend some time with the boat. After you have some time on it and have a good feel for the boat you can better decide what you want out of a prop and go from there.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call or e mail

I am new to OSO and have a new rig and set-up, was looking for propeller information and contacted BBlades Professional Propellers and talked with Brett. He was both informative and extremely helpful in answering my questions, and he also offered me test propellers which I am going to try. So you also might want to consider BBlades in your prop search.

Ok guys here are some stats. I ran the boat and here is what I got. Up river I got a speed of 70.2 MPH on GPS at 5400 RPMs. Down river I got 73.4 MPH on GPS at 5400 RPMs. The temp out was 60 Degrees and I had 2 people in the boat with about a half a tank of gas. My question is can I get a faster top end speed? The take of and mid range are fine. I know I need prop work by the looks of the prop. I will take a pic and add it just to make sure I really do need work.

Here is the model # of the prop and some pics.
Model #HC CL24L O-IV
Notice on the Blade Pics how they are kinda dinged up. This is the reason why I feel I need prop work done. I figured as long as my prop is getting fixed up I might as well get the best performance out of it as well. Any help or comments is greatly appreciated.

At 5400 RPM you should be in the Rev Limiter. If so then we need to look at the amount of throttle you have available and how much trim you can put into it. Can you fully trim the boat for speed? I would have expected you to run about a 26P with your boat. Can you give me some more details about your test, please.

I trimmed it out to about 4.5 to 5 max on the indicator if I remember right. I'm sure I could have went more. Again this is my first boat so please bear with me. I do know for sure it was at 5400RPM. I to thought this was the rev limiter but I never felt it. Hope this helps.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if you are in the rev limiter, especially with mufflers. I would expect your boat to run a 26 pitch prop. Usually your model boat with the power you have will turn a 26 pitch prop. I would guess you are in the rev limiter.
The best thing to do may be for you to try a 28 Quad IV test prop we have and see what your rpm is. This would give us an idea what pitch prop may be best for your application.

That sounds great but I just winterized my boat for the year!!!
I will definitely take you up on that offer early spring. Do you feel I will get more MPH out of the boat with the 26 or 28 pitch?
