The four Bomar hatchs on my 357SR-1 were looking pretty lame and my first inclination was to paint them all white.

I found the 3M vinyl they use to paint graphics on buses (and airplanes) and the stuff is a mesh like material that is all white on the topside and black on the underside.

We ended up just painting and clearcoating the frames and then cutting the 3M mesh to fit exactly over the faded, scratched lexan inserts in the hatches.

I think they came out great. They let exactly the right amount of light in yet screen the sun and nosey dock-walkers.

I had been using some Sunbrella hatch covers we made but the fabric trhew off a lousy color inside the boat and didn;t look finished.

By the way, the "stumps" in the background are all that is left of a 200+ slip marina after lat years huricanes.

The hatches look very nice, how hard are they to come off? Did you just pull the pin from the hinges, what paint?

We were going to totally remove the hatches--they are held to the deck by 8-10 screws into the fiberglass but we had just rebedded them last year because the screws had worn the holes from age and vibration--or whatever.

We ended up masking of a big area around each hatch and painting them in place. We used a polyurethane paint and clearcoat.

I've been watching some of the threads about fairings and have thought about at least tinting the windshield. After seeing how this looks on the hatch covers I'm thinking that this stuf on the windshiled might just give the best of both tint and fairings.

Would a fairing look on this resin-bucket/wave crusher look OK or just look bizarre?

Any comments?

Maybe a light tint to the window just to darken it up.

poorsche, what was the name of your paint and were did you buy it? spray or brush?
