I am new to this boat and was wondering is the whole boat is Kevlar? the top and sides look like gelcoat(smooth finish material) there are some small stress cracks(real small) but wondering what and how to repair them or leave well enough alone? or should take it somewhere to have touched up? this boat is in very good shape and want my investment to stay that way.If you can pitcure the Miami Vice boat you know what mine looks like same colors but no arch.

Good question-
Some say yes- the KV means kevlar. I was told by someone that KV stood for Kaama Victory.
Kevlar cloth looks like gold cloth in epoxy resin. Fiberglass is white and turns nearly clear when in resin.

Look around the stringer and sides of the boat from the inside where they haven't been painted. As Bulldog said you will see the yellowish/gold color of the kelvar mat used in your boat. The easy place to look is right at the forward most part of the "V" up front and under the floor on the stringer. They should be wrapped in kevlar.

Great boat....I almost purchased the exact same model, with the MV colors, race hatches, and arch last spring. The seller decided not to sell at the last minute before delivery. I wanted that boat bad, and it really upset me that he decided to keep it, but I did'nt blame him. He had to cover my costs so at least I did'nt loose anything on the survey etc. It needed some cosmetic work though, but I was still disapointed. I had been looking for that boat for quite some time.
The surveyor who checked it over for me noted the kevlar laminate was a reinforcement to the fglass construction, generally around the stringers, not full kevlar construction (would be extremely expensive especially for a production builder like Wellcraft) In other words, don't expect to duck behind the hull for bulletproof protection if you get shot at!
Touching up the paint is tricky since it is such an expensive imron job. Everything is faded in together. A company in florida called Minicraft has the gel coat match for the blue / green, and perhaps others. They will send out samples for you to match.
Forward some pics, I as well as others I'm sure would love to see it.
Good luck

I didn't know how to determin the kevlar and were it is in the boat but now I know what to look for.The top surface is kevlar also? just emron paint over it? I have some pictures but not sure on how to posting them? I know I can send them through e-mails if anyone wants to look at the boat e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll try and send some. The boat was for sale on the internet the guy lived around my house and I seen it on the water by my house and my friend said it was up for sale so I hunted him down and made a deal.He was offerd more than he sold it to me for from a person in Florida but he was a honest and good guy to stick to the deal with me.I am just trying to understand the boat better that's why I ask some stupid questions LOL.P.S. the boat came from Ohio originally
