I'm working on my winter project and I'm trying to clean out the bilge brfore reinstalling motors.I have scrubbed and degreased ,but fiberglass seems to be stained from years of being soaked with oil.Any ideas as how to remove these stains and return it to its original white,or does it need to be sanded and painted?

Try FSR(fiberglass stain remover) or some good old fashioned Ajax with bleach on a stiff brush. If that doesn't work, prep it, prime it and Awlgrip it. It will be bright shiny and super easy to keep clean.

repaint. The bilge paint in Fountains has alot to be desired.

Degrease it and slap some bilgekote paint on it. Then it will be easier to maintain.

I tried the ajax today and it worked out great.I would love to paint but since you only see about 8.875 sq. inches of the bilge when the motors are installed I figured I would spend the money else where.Thanks for the suggestions.

So you're saying you need very little paint then, right?

I never had good luck keeping mine white looking. I'm with you. With the very little that shows, I just keep it clean.

ok take the easy way use on off hull cleaner youll be suprised how easy just dont get it on your skin>>>> stings like a *****

As long as you have the motors out I would paint it. It doesn't cost that much. Your time will be the biggest expense. I did mine last year. Here's a before and after shot.

What paint did you use?spray or brush?did you sand and prime?It really looks good all cleaned up,nice job.
