I need a good used carb for the above, calc's say I need a 950 to pull to 5400 RPM, what do you have laying around?

Without knowing the combo you have it's going to be difficult to point you in the right direction here is a picture of a 540ci that made 677hp at 5600rpm and 670 ft lbs with an 800cfm and a small spacer. Feel free to call if you need any help.Sincerely yours Laz

I had a non marine 950 on my 540 and at the time they did not sell marine 950s and don't know if they do now. The guy that bought my motor ended up going with a marine 1050.
I still have the 950 however it is in pieces. I have all the parts and I believe the kit. I would sell it cheap.

I've got 4 recently rebuilt 830's that I am not using anymore. They were working fine upon take out this winter. $375 plus shipping.

A 950 is WAY oversized. Something in the 800 cfm range would be a better choice.

I was told that an 850 Squarebore is more than enough for a N/a 540 , I have Dominator 1050 so I'll use that. I think proform sells a kit to modify a regular Holley 750 to flow better, like 830 or more cfm's. Maybe a K&N stub stack would help too. I don't believe the airflow formula is always accurate, especially in boats, just as or more important is the fuel flow to the carb and the jetting. Big motor needs big fuel. My 2 cents... BBB

Buy a new Mighty Demon Marine 850 (model# 5563020GM with Annular Boosters or # 5563010 w/ Down-leg Boosters).
Please bear in mind that Barry Grant (Demon) rates their carbs based on wet flow, unlike Holley (other that the Ultra/ HP series) and this results in the Demon being a higher flowing carb when compared to a similarly rated Holley. Besides, it's a superior quality than the regular Holleys at a comparable price.
The Annular version has much better bottom end response and the Down-leg may have a few horsepower advantage on the very top. My preference is the Annular. I have one on my 509 and it has EFI-like throttle response.
Either version is available from Jegs for $574.99, which is a good price when you consider all the features you get - like tunable air bleeds ( a Holley Hp is like $650-750+ and the Ultra series is like nearly $1,000!).
The Demon carb even comes with a tuning instruction manual and DVD. Besides, it's better to buy a new carb, that way you know what you're getting. BTW: Make sure you buy the correct fuel inlet fittings (9/16" X 24 thread - if memory serves) for the Demon, because they're different from the regular Holley
