I got my new boat yesterday and I just got out of the garage rewinterizing. I found that on one of the Teague 509's that the dipstick end was broken off where the "Add" line is pressed into the metal. It is about 3/8" long. I assume it is in the oil pan. Is this a big problem or no problem? This is a new one on me. I'm gonna call the person I bought from and ask him if he knows that it is in the motor. I am surprised the surveyor did not find this as I paid extra for the motor evaluations.

I wouldn't really think that it would cause any ongoing problems. The piece is too big to get sucked into the pump and not the right shape or consistency to plug anything. But I sure would like to hijack your thread topic name for a screen name. EVERYBODY keeps calling me "Broken Dipstick" for some reason. --- Jer

Is it possible they cut it off due to clearance problems? It might have been hitting the windage tray and the tip really isn't necessary.

I really think it is in there because the end was not filed smooth apperared to be cold worked.

Does the dip stick attract to a magnet? You could place a magnet at several locations on the bottom of the pan. If it is in there it would likely stay put.

Bad Dog excellent idea, I will check the dipstick for magnetism, I bet that will work. At least it will make me feel as if I have done something. Good Kentucky solution.

I always epoxy a cow magnet inside my pans. Great way to grab anything metalic that you dont want going any farther. A good strong magnet outside might keep that piece from going anywhere. Im guessing it probably has good windage trays that will likely keep it from flying up and getting into anything.

I could not sleep until I knew where this pece is....It would drive me crazy until I knew.....but thats me. I have found all kinds of things underthe windage trays that never caused a problem though. You
paid for survey so get satisfaction.

Um, what's a cow magnet? I didn't even know cows were magnetic!
I actually fished a plastic hose out of the oil drain hole using a hanger.

My opinion if it is in there it don't amount to a hill of beans, it will just lay on the bottom of the pan. Do you expect it to jump up and bite you NOT! Any debris has to be small and light to be of any worry, anything of weight can not be held in suspension in the oil.
