Is the winch on my trailer mounted too high? I have only loaded the boat on this trailer one time and didn't have any problems but it looks to me like the winch should have it's mounting plate lowered a bit so the winch strap is a bit closer to level or may just a little bit higher on the winch side comparted to the eye on the boat. Thanks for any opinions.

I'd leave it right there. I like the way it lifts the front of the boat as you are winching on, somewhat taking the heavy friction off of the front bunks when trying to muscle it up there. I would add a single or double ratchet tie-down to the bow eye, and have it go straight down to the trailer, to hold the front of the boat down when towing. Several of us are set up as I described, and I can find pics if needed.

what keeps the front of the boat from bouncing around ??? usually the strap goes through the winch post and locks the front of the boat to the trailer ??.. Like brian said, seems you need a bow tie down...

and IMO I would lower the winch about a foot....

It looks high to me. There must be a reason all others are level, I don't see any that high.

Maybe that trailer was meant for a Fountain because of the "beak" overhang. The 29 I'm buying has a similar trailer but it looks like it was meant for it.

If it were mine I'd cut the post down and take the constant pressure off the bow eye.

I was out at the barn this weekend and Ron welded a big eyelet exactly where the bottom of your arrow is. Must be he had the same thing in mind.

I agree about the down strap but I would go backwards, behind the stop if possible. It tends to balance out the pull of the winch and helps hold the boat back if you ever really have to get on the brakes hard. God forbid in an accident the boat stop will become more of a launch ramp. My grandfather was killed by a load shifting foward and crushing the cab.

I think the winch looks a little high as well, it's putting a lot of leverage on the winch post. But there are alot of ways to skin a cat, just my $.02

Just gave it some more thought. If you need the winch that high for leverage at your favorite ramp you can always put a second one lower and use one for getting the boat on the trailer then swith to the lower one for traveling
