salt water is denser than fresh water, so your boat is more bouyant cuse it is less dense in relation to the water, so it floats higher outta the water, causing less drag when runnin.....

I personnaly believe more in air density from different altitude than the fact the water is salt or fresh. That's what we had to work with when I was racing open wheel formula cars...

I've heard it has to do with the density of the water as well. Cold water as compare to warm, cold being denser. But, that could be the air also. If the water is colder the air above the water is colder also. I'm talking Lake Michigan in May compare to August.
