Bannana ID Issue, 2 transoms later
#1
Hey Charlie,
I was looking over pics of what we have been calling #14, and it is a yellow 79+/- with no deck hatch and no console, BUT...
Look at the transom in pics number
4 and 10?
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=103562
Clearly this is not the stock outboard well.
The boat is also set up for having at one point run a BBC Motor and has BBC wide main stringers.
Would an original outboard boat have had center stringers wide enough for a BBC?
This is brobably 3 transom jobs later.
If it was the original tansom, that is gone, there is a tall sterndrive transom, and then a new OB transom mounted on top of that without capping...
Is it possible that this is an original stern drive boat and not #14??
Thanks
Evan

I think I tried to make this point already, there is a outer transom bonded to an inner transom, (the inner transom is cut fora strendrive w thru hull exhaust, and the inner transom it is not cut what would appear to be a wider original motor well). from the comparitive pics, not only is the motor well in the pics smaller then factory, but narrower too. Presumably the hull number is sandwiched between the two transoms, if the inner transom is even the original transom and not a replacement.
Did this boat start as #14 the outboard, get a new transom and a sterndrive, and then another new transom, bonded to the sterndrive transom for OBs and cut to a smaller well?
Did obs in 78/79 come with the same stringers to mount a BBC between them?
I'm guessing the stringer layout is more telling then the transom configureation at this point, however the stringers are glassed in in black pigment which may mean that they are unoriginal also.
I was thinking of what you said about tilt, and I agree. The motors are on what is presummed to be a Land and Sea, Double jack plate that gives verticle lift for the motors and some setback which probably facilitates some tilt. but the motors are stored with them lifted, not tilted
and tilt function is unknown at this time
This boat is a structural mess, I'm thinking about a full structural resto and emailed the owner yesterday to see if he wants to sell with a price reduction based on the survey's structural findings.

And the reasons for that would be free up the cash I have in the SB by picking up the Banana derelict for low $$.
The twins give it a higher top end then the SOB which is struggling to get over 70 mph and all that space between the stringers where the BBC used to be could take an extra fuel tank to extend the range for a full day poker run or longer range cruising in the San Juan Islands.
