Default On board camera to reduce insurance costs

Would you install an on board video camera to save on insurance costs ? Some articles recently about limo companies and delivery fleets saving money on insurance costs by having them installed. Haven't heard of any on boats yet but may be in the future.. If the savings were substantial would you do it? ... or too much big brother?

Way too much big brother . I go boating to get away, as much as that is possible these days.

most likely someone with no or very little boating experience will watch the video and nto realize whats happening and decide that you are a dangerous driver then raise your rates.

How would an onboard video camera lower risk to insurance companies?

Don't know about camera, but I'll bet it wont be long before they offer considerable discounts for a permanently mounted GPS tracking device, another item I would not care to have.

I don't see how installing a camera would reduce insurance if anything they would probably use it as an excuse to up rates. As fro the Limo companies doing it, I own a Limo service, yea see how many clients you loose by video taping them!!! At least my clients

I agree. It can only be used against you. The insurance companies might interpret things as potentially dangerous.

Yeah sure, RATMAN would get ahold of the videos and my wife and her girlfriend would end up on some porn site!

The idea seems to be that if the insured is willing to hold himself to a higher degree of accountability (via video) then he fits the profile of a more responsible boater - lower risk - better rate. This would really be an option of last resort for me.
