Default PROPS.......Is this true or not

Are Bravo 1 props actual ptch what they are stamped or is there any truth to the rumor that they are 1 1/2 pitch less..for example......a Bravo 1 24-4 blade is actually a 22.5...Second...on a 253 Convincer(97)..is a Hydromotive prop better than a Bravo 1...Which has better performance..Thanks

I've heard they are 1" less pitch than stamped.

Assuming you mean a Hydromotive Q-IV vs. a Bravo 1. From my experience the Hydro cause alot of stern lift. On my old 24' Baja it was so much I couldn't trim past it and the prop caused bow steer. Bravo 1's are more of a a bow lifting prop. You likely have a fairly deep x-dimension, so a Bravo 1 would be my vote. Try them out and tell us how it goes. Just my $.02

Yes if you are running for example a 24 pitch Hydro 4 blade you would need a 26 Bravo 1 to turn around the same rpm.

Hydro's are more of a stern lift prop and Bravo's are more of a bow lift prop.

Bravo I's run one inch smaller that marked. A 24 would measure out at 23". Props make a huge difference in your boats performance and each hull will respond differently to a given prop. Even though a Bravo I is an excellent choice for alot a different applications you should talk to someone who has experience with your particular hull and the prop you are thinking of using.

The stamped pitch is the maximum pitch on any one blade. All the others are blade will be less. The 1" less pitch is a good rule of thumb.

I tried every type prop on my old 253 Check. Hydro QIV RH is the best prop for that hull.

Brett A worked in Mercury's prop dept for Many years. His website is www.bblades.com . If your looking to increase the performance of your boat this is a very good start.
