I just picked up my boat today from having it buffed out and I am less than satisfied with the results. Now I just bought the boat recently and I know the previous owner left it outside all the time and it is an 11 year old boat. There was quite a bit of haziness and oxidation on the surface, very noticeable on the dark purple stripes. Well it looks like some of the oxidation came off and some didnt. He said he did the best he could ! Does this sound right, I mean some parts look great, all the oxidation removed, and then you move down the stripe a few inches andit looks like crap again. I dont know what to think about the job i received. Before I say what I paid, what does an average buff & wax coast on a 32 ft boat?

couple bucks a foot for the buff and wax for us. That can be totally normal for a heavily oxidized boat. Try Flitz.

without actually seeing the boat its tough to answer the question. i will say this though, its is very possible that a gel coat surface is just to far gone to save and it is next to impossible to tell unless you try. 11 years is a long time to be in the sun. i had an early nineties Baja that had three tone gray stripe that seemed to buff out OK but within a few hours in the sun they became cloudy and mottled looking. it was impossible to maintain a even gloss or color. spent many hours trying to save it but in the end it was much easier to just repaint the stripes and be done with it. its a crap shoot with old faded colors sometimes. i try and give all the options before anything is started.

Hey Dave, you are 100% accurate in you response, as usual. Question, do you charge by the square foot, total running foot or running foot per side? I'm not trying to be a smartass.

actually i am starting a shoe shine business and i charge $15.00 per foot. so for the pair its 30 bucks.


yea, the $15.00 is per running foot. so for a 30 footer it $450.00. this is for Rolite and Seabreeze wax. gooood stuff.its your best bet on heavily oxidized boats.

I was quoted $16 per foot, which includes buffing both sides, deck, transom, and a full polish on ALL the SS hardware. I drop it off next week... hope it turns out nice.

I would have gladly paid $15 or $16 per foot to have the job turn out right. I was a little surprised when he only said the job would be $300, but Ihad no reason to doubt he would do a good job.
