Default How to mount oil temp sender in pan?

I am re-doing the oil system on my Gen VI and will not be using the remote filter. I have been looking at an oil temp sender that will be installed in the pan. It is 1/8 male npt. I have been unable to locate a fitting that will allow me to weld or fasten a 1/8 npt female into my pan. Any idea what the temp gauge is supposed to screw into?

Mcmaster Carr or any pipe supply house should have fractional threadolets or half couplings - 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2" then you'd only need a reducing bushing to get to 1/8" NPT. The whole set up would be less than $ 10.00. But then it needs to be welded to the pan.

I used a SS bushing for mine, as it wasn't painted with the pan.

You can go to a plumbing supply and pickup a steel not "cast" female 1/8 fitting, drill the the hole slightly larger then the senders tip and weld or braze the fitting onto the pan.

I poked around McMasterCarr.com What material should I get to be able to weld to the pan?

My choices are Black Forged Steel, 304 Stainless Steel, 304/304L Stainless Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, 316/316L Stainless Steel. This flange needs to be welded to the oil pan.

Where would a good spot to weld to the pan be?

The pan is steel I would mate plain steel to plain steel, mounting is I feel should be pretty low. Mount it on the opposite side from the starter less chance of accidentally damaging it if you have to pull the starter.
