I need some help, currently I am looking at both a corvette 2000-2003 or a porsche 996 2000-2001, I am concerned with the horsepower and maintainence issues with the porsche, I have no experience with porsche and what issues they may have, bad engines, etc. If I get the porsche I will probably be adding the super charger to take it to 420hp.

I've had a few Porsche turbos over the years. They are pretty expensive to maintain, but they run like hell

papi has had multiple porshe turbos over the years, we had a early ninties black turbo, widened, at least 500plus hp, suspension, everything was custom.....friggin fast...and sold it with near 60thousand miles with no probs, we also just sold an 01 or 02 i think yeler turbo that at less than 30k miles had tranny probs,(i knew he shouldny have gotten the tiptronic chit?), and the rear spoiler tht is supposed to raise at 75 mph broke.....hes had other porsches in 70s, 80s, that were pretty reliable..

I have driven a Sh!t load of Porsche in my day. I currently own a 911 3.2 . The car runs like a dream & I dont baby it.
Just drive the Porsche, You`ll buy it.
Just make sure all oil changes have been done on time & dont power shift it , and you'll be fine.
Your insurance will be cheaper because it metal & its a 4 seater.


Back in the 80s the 930 & 911 Turbos were great cars. The problem with maintaining $$ was the motor had to come out of the car for a what was called a (major) service witch meant nothing more then a valve ADJ. & all the other stuff.
I had friends back in the day that had 930`s and did nothing but change oil & beat the sh!t out of them, never broke.

I sold a 993 cab last fall since I wasn't using it enough. (Two little kids, I work from home with no commute, etc.) When the time is right for me to buy a sports car again, I can 100% guarantee you it will be another 993.
I'd take a 993 over a 996 any day of the week, but that's just my preference. (I'd take either one over a Vette.)
I like the classic look of the 993 - still has the same basic interior design as previous 911 models, but more refined. One look and it's unmistakeable. The 996 interior looks to me like it could be out of some Japanese sports car, like a Supra. Not to mention, the quarters are too flat. I love the flare of 993 quarters, especially the wide body cars.
As for your question on horsepower, don't worry about it. There are few road cars on the planet more fun to drive than a 911 variant.....regardless of the horsepower.

Porsche are extremely reliable cars so I would not worry about that. I have owned plenty of late model style Vettes and they are a lot of bang for the buck BUT they are not put together nearly as well as a Porsche.

Body style, interior, and air cooled is my preference as well, I'll never buy a 911 under 99. Porsche holds its value over the Vette for the most part better in the short term. Service join PCA and find out who's the well regarded P-car independent shop.

I had a 930 for 10 years and never had any problems with it- about 425 HP with mods and was scary fast 0-60 in about 4 seconds. 0-30 in about 3, 30-60 do the math.

Pulled HARD from 90-140 in 3rd gear fast as you could say 90-100-110...
