Ok, now my decision is getting easier, went to look at a 03 vette, and pulling into the dealership, a carrera s4 blasted by, I was feeling kind of like umm, I think Im done looking at this vette, I just did get that emotional / excited feeling I used to get from the vette , but I got it when that carrera passed and I wasnt even in it. Ok last time for refrence 00-01 996, low mileage, maintenence wise you think I'll be ok? My boat is enough maintenence, and if shyt goes wrong I usually get frustrated and sell the car. I only have patience fixing my boat.

A 996 twin turbo with k 27 new turbos..intake and headers with a heavy race modded ecu ....will pull 576 foot pounds of torque..on the light side with low boost....also the car needs to be lowered and 19 inch rims...bembro large piston breaks and roters...keeping the stock clutch and all wheel drive...you can not drop the clutch....you will beat 38 out of 42 crotch rockets at philly street races...you will dust off hondas 992 or what ever it was 2 years ago..at 100 mph starts 20 starts at 100..and totally leave him at 185...car will do 225 like that...you can not read speedo someone else will...you will smoke a lambo..1000 hp viper 850 hp vet....ahhh...basically the street bikes says it all...you dust them in 1/8 or 1/4.....not by much but always get them.....they only pull you the first 20 to 50 feet cause you can not drop clutch..........the power to weight ratio is where these cars get it....the bad things are you can not see the motor basically at all....if some one will not give up the programming code...you have to take it back to the hop up shop...not just any shop can fix these cars this hopped up.....they like to get stolen.....I will not get another ..do to the fact that you can not see the motor..I will get a gallardo with e gear..the power to weight ratio is there....this has to be a major trick for running like this..there being hopped to 750 hp and 625 tq....just a total killer...but many will say there junk...but if your dusting crotch rockets that are worked out by kids.....your doing something......the porshe was a totally streetable car that you could take out to dinner if you wanted....but the only thing i did was kill it at philly street races and here and there....it was weird....you could rip it to 150 and down like that....silly ride....just feed it gears...

Say that if you like, but my daily driver '99 Boxster has 110k in it now and I am going to drive it til the wheels fall off. I take it in every 15k miles and they change oil and filters and look everything over. Been trouble free, and I drive it like i stole it. 28 mpg and I have seen 157 on the speedo. Great car.

the vette can;t companre to the porsche. vette biuld qulaity is crap. creeks rattles, all the joys we've coem to love and expect from our duallies and tahoes are alive and kickin in the vette.

they run hard and fast but th fit and finish isn't so hot. nor is the resales.

the 996 drives nicely, handles well and is pretty quick. It however feels more "tame" than a 993 or 997. The 996 was a great sports car the 997 is a very good sports car with some amenties. The 996 is a good sports can but can feel like a lexus at times. Granted i've beaten on a 993 and a 997 but have only driven a 996 at normal and reasonable road speeds. When beaten on it might liven up soem more.

overall any of them are supperior to vettes.

My wife has a 2000 Boxster, its an ok car but its a chick car... It does get good gas milage and has a room trunk front and rear. We looked at a 2001 carrera cab, she felt it was 'too much" car for her every day. We bought the Boxster used as her second car, now she wont go back to her ML.
I was told to avoid the 1999 Carrera because they have problems with the main oil seals blowing out, very expensive to repair.

We also test drove a 2003 or 4 Corvette, seemed cheap inside, painted fiberglass parts for the interior, same parts as the pick up truck, we were far from impressed, I hate to say.

Stay clear of the C4S in that year range. They are known to have a leaky engine seal that can be costly. Plus the turbo is built like a brick ****house and isn't much more expensive.

I'd get the turbo originally instead of supercharging a NA version.

Check out http://www.6speedonline.com/ for a good porsche forum.

I am wondering if it isnt just the 1999? I saw quite a few that have had recent engine rebuilds that is what scared me away.

I am pretty sure it was limited to that C4S version. DO a seach on that forum I posted above for a definative answer. It was one of those things that some went, some were fine for thousands of miles.
