The kids will love the Boardwalks, and there are a few. Ocean City, Atlantic City, Wildwood. (all have boardwalks with games and rides)

Trumps has the absolute best Marina in the Tri-State area for transient docking and when you get a slip you are allowed to use the hotel ammenities.

You can make it from Lady Liberty in a few hours via the Ocean. If conditions are rough you can pick up the ICW along the way.
Dont forget the Cape May beaches and the delaware river. Tons of destinations with Atlantic City as your port. etc...

If your in the area of LI Sound, I would check out the Great South Bay and all the areas around there. Fire Island is a great place, cruise around the Hamptons and if you get a good day head out from Montauk and get over and see Block Island. Im sure the Delaware Bay is a nice area, but I have expierienced the trip I just explained and it was a blast

LIS, I've done both the Chesapeake and LIS, both are among the best boating areas in the nation. I'd lean towards the east end of LIS, Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, Montauk, etc.

I've done the trip from Stoney Pt. to our home in Greenport. It is a beautiful ride. Long Island has alot to offer.
