Went and checked her out yesterday. It was steel gears vs. aluminum housing...guess what won?! Need a new upper, 1.5 ratio, should have been ordered from Mercruiser today. Only problem is, there's two extra holes in the housing for my Imco hydralic steering (there's an Imco cap on the back of the upper with a wing plate on it). I don't know if the new one is gonna come with those holes, and I don't think my repair guy is too crazy about drilling them . This may hold things up a bit, I'm thinkin' I'm not gonna be ready by the run. However, Michelle and I WILL be there with our thumbs stickin' out and a sign that says "Will be a line ***** for a ride."
