Post Fiberglass/Gel coat protection question.....Does this work??

I was thinking...I know scary thought....Why wouldn't putting A coat of sunblock, like 80proof, on your boat like wax keep the UV rays from destroying your gel coat over time. If you did this every once in a while(like when you're waxing your boat...or even add it to liquid wax) why would it not work like keeping the UV rays off of your body. UV's are what destroys the nice bright shine on a boats surface. Any input on this? Whats the dealio? Has anyone ever done this or currently does this?

I think someone asked this before Tank, If I remember, the conclusion was that sunblocker once exposed to the atmosphere, starts to break down, and last only a few hrs.
nice thought though

Would the oils bleed into the Gel-Coat and stain it. You can buy waxes with UV-inhibitors, I dont know of a quality brand that doesnt contain them, now I gotta read the bottles.
However, Im going to think about waxing the girl, not rubbing lotion on the boat

Cool

I think that a lot of the waxes have provision to block uv rays.

Wax hepls, but the manufacturer has the most input with what gelcoat they start with to spray the boat. There are many quality levels.
