Default Trailer brakes... now a lot better.

My trailer was built is a 2003 built by http://www.mcclaintrailers.com/

I bought it one year used; as it came under the boat. I always thought the brakes could be better, and always kept a close eye on them; including replacing the pads a couple times in the past 3 years that I have owned it.

Come to find out, that McClain installed the wrong Master Cylinder/Coupler. I have a Dico/Titan Model 20 surge brake coupler, but you can order the coupler and/or master cylinder for drum or disc brakes. My trailer had the master cylinder configured for drum brakes (which includes an additional valve that does NOT work right with disc brakes.)

I had the Master Cylinder replaced and the internal springs replaced... and WOW, what a difference. Someday I will upgrade to electric/hydraulic, but this was a great improvement for me with low investment.

Sydwayz, I need link to great thread that you started when yoiu redid brakes with Kodiak disks.

I'm new to this forum, but this is the real deal. Fell into your thread from one of sites that I was working to find Kodiak parts for second axle where first was done with all SS kodiak parts by manufacturer..

Kodiak site was very helpful but the parts guys don'tt seem to want to sell the separate rotors that yoiu used.

My son is in Spanish Wells waiting weather to get to FL. Orig plan to run all way to NC. Trying now to get trailer and add second axle brakes in time to get him the hell out of FL by the w/e. His insurance doesn't cover FL, but worse he has had to run uncovered from Providenciales where he bot the boat in a fit of island feve

Thaks,
Gene r.

www.championtrailerparts.com should be able to get you any parts you need like lines and such. It took some work, and this was several years ago, but I did talk Kodiak into selling to me directly.
