This may not be possible, however I have a friend who is wanting me to keep his boat in FL, the arrangement is I keep it Slip/storage and he visits as he wishes, we both use the boat. I am not sure I want this arrangement unless I can be fully insured on this boat, the problem is that I will not own it??? So is it possible to be coverd on a boat you don't own?? It will have stock 496ho's in it??

I dont see why not.....an uncle of mine went to Europe for 6 months and left his car to us to take care of....said we could use it as we wish....my dad called the ins company and got coverage for himself and my mom with no problems....never had any problems even when the car got hit in a grocery parking lot...the ins company covered it to get fixed...

Couldnt your friend just add you to his policy?

Depending on your friend's current insurance carrier it should be no problem to add you on to his policy as a "named operator". Give me a call if you have any questions.

Thanks for the advise, I understand adding me to his policy, however i would feel better if I had one of my own, I know it may sound stupid but It would be a peace of mind for me.

If you have your own boat your policy can cover you to drive another persons just like car insurance however if you don't you can be an additional driver on his policy just like a car and if you live onthe water where the boat is your homeowners insurance might also provide coverage.

I believe that you cannot have your own policy for a boat that you do not own. Add yourself to his policy and pay for any additional coverages/increases that you may want.

You can have non owners car insurance. I carried it for several years when all we had was company cars.

You don't have to have your own policy (in fact you can't have two policies on the same boat). Add yourself and keep a copy of the Declarations Page. The Dec page will list your name as an operator. (This is only true on a named operator policy). Policies that let "anyone" operate the boat don't list the operators on the Dec Page.

Also, have yourself listed as an Additional Insured if the boat is being kept at your dock. This is the same request that most marina's make.
