There have been several marinizations of the Wankel motor.
Hp per pound is very favorable and they can be tuned for whatever torque curve you desire (just like a 2 stroke). They are also easy to mechanically supercharge or turbocharge.
They just never caught on with the high volume mfrs because of the additional cost and "weirdness factor". If OMC or Merc had bought into the idea, you'd have seen a bunch of em.
The website listed above will sell you all you need to marinize a junkyard Wankel for your boat. There's also a place that puts marinized Wankels in JETSKIS (even twin rotor turbocharged ones).
