The stock size for that car was a 255 50 . Do you have different wheels on it? If so how wide are they? You may have to go to stock or aftermarket rims to get a wider tire than the 255 on a 16 . American racing is showing some nice 18's with a 10 inch wide rear wheel. Price is nice too! You can do a 285 35 18 , thats pretty close.

I changed my 87 over to 17" wheels with 315/35/17's on the rear. I had also updated the brake system to a Grand Sport system. I also changed the brake bias spring. Being a challenge car I would have figured that would have been done already.

Try: http://cokertire.com/ they carry a large selection of older vintage tires and have a wide selection of off size 80's race tires....

Prater,
I took the 315/40/16 tires and put them on a set of stock 87 Vette rims and drive the car as a "street sleeper".....(although it only has 4000 miles on it in 18 years) now those tires need replacing and I can't find them anywhere in 16 inch....Otto

That sounds like a race-only tire from that era.
The closest I know of is a Hoosier 275/40 or 45 that you can find on tirerack.

Yep, those tires were sold as "shaved competition tires", with only half the tread depth. Michelin made them especially for the Corvette Challenge. 16 inch wheels are not the "in thing", at the time that was the biggest street tire wheel size made.

Edit: Go to the Corvette forum on the web and post under the C4 section. someonel will have some tires.
