Ext. box question and leaks...

I noticed the other day I drained all the water out on the boat ramp before putting the plug in to take it for a run.
Came back and water was in the bilge. I have a stellings ext. box with a brave outdrive. I put new gaskets on the side inspection plates, so I don't think its leaking there.
I have an external water pick up so I don't go through the outdrive for cooling water.
Does the rubber boot between the outdrive and the gimble assembly still have to be used? I'm not sure if there is a block off plate or what. I know the rubber boot is in 2 pieces right now. One half connected to the gimble and the other connected to the outdrive.
Excuse me if its a dum A** question but I'm just not familiar enough with that part of the boat.
Where else could it be leaking if thats not it?
Thanks,
Shawn

Are you talking about the factiry exhaust boot or the actual bellows for the gimbal? If the boot your talking about has corrugated ribs on it and the input shaft runs thru it and its actually in 2 pieces FIX IT BEFORE GOING OUT AGAIN OR YOUR BOAT WILL SINK!!!You will have to pull the drive off and dissassemble the gimbal assembly to install a new one,Smitty

There are 2 boots, the lower is exhaust and does not matter. The upper is the U joint bellows and if leaking will put water in the boat, along with ruining the drive, u joints & gimbal bearing.

I had one of mine leaking last year.
Turned out to be 5 of the 8 mounting studs
where the transom assembly mounts to the box were loose,
tightened them all up, leak gone.
