Procharger TekTalk

Hi Y'all:
I have a bigblock circa / '98 and an older 5 PSI Procharger I may install.
What have you all heard of Procharger Marine kits? Do they need fancy programming? New injectors? I know it requires fuel pressure mods, what kind and how much?
I have heard detonation kills supercharged motors. Motors aren't cheap, ever. If you were in my shoes would you put it on? And if so, what specifically would you watch out for?
I have heard Whipple makes good kits for these but I haven't got one of those, so your thoughts would be well appreciated. I want to use what I have if I can.
Thanks!

I have run a procharger for over 5 years with no issues related to the blower or fuel system. You can use stock injectors for 3-5 PSI of boost. Do you have an intercooler (highly recommended). A programmed ECU would be best.
I have a built up motor - 468 and it has 42# injectors. Either way you will need a boost reference fuel regulator and a good pump like an Aeromotive A1000.

Which ProCharger kit do you have? It should have the fuel pump, regulator etc with it. Send the ecu to Mark @ Precision Marine, the stock injectors will be fine under 7 psi.

Well, it's an older one, but I have to get rid of the water circultion pump to update.
I have to update, because I found this hotdog intercooler leaks water into the intake. And the new stuff has a square thing, and a water bypass thing, and brackets and stuff. Not cheap.
Apparently this motor was built for a supercharger. Big heads, oval ports, mild cam, and I can't tell you pistons. It runs just fine now.
If stock injectors will be OK, why would I need ECU work? Doesn't the fuel regulator you buy do that enrichening thing?
I got a second fuel pump, and a mod to the pressure regulator to plumb it into the intake...a vacuum hose. And that's all. Do I need more?
Thanks for talking to me.

You need the ecu mod because when you install the ProCharger you remove the recirculating pump and install the crossover in its place, you also remove the factory thermostat and housing, then install a housing only, without the thermostat the oem program in the ecu keeps it in the cold start mode and it runs too rich. You need to call ProCharger and tell them exactly what you have so you can get everything you need to set it up properly, and if you dont have one get a instruction manual also. I have run a ProCharged 502 mpi since 2001 and have had no problems at all with the kit but proper setup is the key to reliability.
