How can I determine what drives I have on my boat. I need to know if they are merc hp's or xr or ect. They do have the low water pick ups on them. Is there a id ## on the drive some where. Thanks for any info.

John,
Look at the serial number, should be on the side of the upper housing. If it is OM, then you have a newer drive with thick floored gears. That is a start.
Is the prop shaft the large 1 1/4" shaft, if so then it could be XR or XZ. If not then it is Standard Bravo (before OM) or X (OM and later).
Pull the top cap and see if the gears have straight teeth or helical. It is easier to see by pulling the back cap off. Of course you need to know what the different styles look like. Do a search, you should be able to come up with pics of the differnt gears..
Hopet this helps..

Look at the hing pins in the bellhousing of the transome assy. If you have trim limit/indicators then it is not HP Gimble.

Record the serial number then go to the Mercury Parts Expres site. There you can enter the S/N and it will tell you what drive you have along with the gear ratio and a parts list.
