painting a steering wheel
#1
Has anyone ever tried painting their steering wheel? I have a momo wheel, 3 spokes and a smooth platinum rim. Was thinking of having a friend paint my swim platform, bezels, controls and wheel to match the graphite metallic engine paint on my new engine. I guess if the wheel turns out bad, i can just buy a new one. But i just wanted to hear if anyone has tried it or had any luck with it.

Yes, I am a sales rep 4 a automotive paint co and a buddy of mine has a eliminator that had anodized bezels and swim decks that were fading so the prior owner sent it out and had it powder coated orange(LOOKED LIKE HELL) so he bought a momo silver wheel and painted it and all the other parts tangelo pearl.looks AWSOME. Make sure you scuff the wheel GOOD,use adhesion promoter & put flex in your clear

Yes you can I would recomend Standox or Spies Hecker if you use their plastic system by the book you can paint a racketball and go play with and you can not damage it. One of my tech reps painted the steering wheel in his dragster 7 years ago a very soft rubber and it looks like the day it was painted.
